Diseñar un itinerario para que medio centenar de Santanas y Series recorran más de 1.500 km por Marruecos ha sido todo un desafío.
El propósito de hacer etapas variadas y localizar campamentos en escenarios únicos, y accesibles a la infraestructura necesaria y los requerimientos de servicios que necesitan 150 personas, han dado como fruto el itinerario más equilibrado y variado de todas las ediciones de #LaGranAventura.
ETAPA 0: ALMERIA-NADOR
Salida en Puerto de Almería
Embarque hacia NADOR
Enlace por carretera hasta Campamento
Por primera vez Santana Trophy se emancipa de su tradicional salida en Linares. En busca de comenzar la aventura lo antes posible, se traslada la salida a la ciudad de Almería, donde la expedición embarcará directamente rumbo a Nador.
Tras los trámites administrativos y técnicos en el Puerto de Almería, la travesía marítima de aproximadamente 5 horas nos permitirá realizar los primeros trámites aduaneros a bordo y hacer el primer briefing general.
Tras el desembarco solo restan 90 km hasta el campamento que acogerá a la caravana para su primera noche en suelo Marroquí. Una zona de temperatura suave, propio del Mediterráneo, pero propensa a las lluvias espera a los equipos para retomar fuerzas ante el reto de mañana.
ETAPA 1. NADOR-TAOURIRT-ANOUAL
Una etapa diseñada para que los equipos se vayan adaptando al roadbook y la sistemática diaria. En este día las consecuencias por los posibles errores de navegación no tienen por qué alterar la clasificación.
Tras un largo enlace por carretera con algún puerto de montaña lento, las primeras pistas del Plateau d`Rekkam darán comienzo a los retos: una primera zona lenta y algo rota por el paso del agua puede hacer que algún equipo se despiste. Una gran pista de gravilla indicará a los equipos que van por el buen camino después de unos kilómetros de incertidumbre. Esta pista rápida y de navegación sencilla hará que los navegantes vayan cogiendo confianza en sí mismos.
El campamento lo encontraremos entre las poblaciones de Annoual y Talsint. A unos 1.200 metros sobre el nivel del mar se espera una noche seca pero fría (2ºC aproximadamente), propia de esta zona árida semidesértica.
ETAPA 2: TALSINT-COL D`BELKASSEM-BOUBNIB-ERFOUD
Un corto enlace por carretera para abastecimientos de combustible y víveres llevará a los equipos a una de las etapas con más variedad de terreno. Comenzamos por una pista rápida que poco a poco va empeorando hasta convertirse en un puerto de montaña pedregoso y muy lento. Aquí es probable que los navegantes tengan que echar pie a tierra para guiar a sus pilotos por este pedregal de curvas cerradas y pendientes pronunciadas. Pero esto solo es el aperitivo del día.
El constante rumbo Sur hará a los equipos pisar los primeros ríos de arena que se alternarán con pistas de más de 20 km. sin una sola curva. Para acabar, una zona pedregosa donde la paciencia de las tripulaciones se pondrá a prueba convertirá los 20 últimos km. de recorrido en un lento paseo hasta la meta. No todo el desierto es arena, aunque en futuras etapas lo parecerá.
Esta noche toda la caravana de Santana Trophy podrá descansar en el hotel BELERE de Erfoud tras tres días expuestos a la intemperie.
ETAPA3. ERG CHEBBI-CIUDAD PERDIDA-KEM KEM
La jornada comienza con la prueba de arena. Recorrer los arenales del Erg Chebbi no es un gran reto para los Land Rover Santana y Series. Sin embargo encontrar las balizas que la organización coloca en lugares estratégicos y con las que los equipos deben marcar sus carnets de ruta sí puede ser un desafío que acabe con algún vehículo atrapado en la arena.
La etapa continúa tras un breve enlace por carretera. Encontrar una ciudad perdida entre un laberinto de pistas originará los primeros dolores de cabeza a los navegantes. No hay tiempo que perder para llegar al campamento, la arena y el fes fes, siempre cambiante y caprichoso, de Ouzina tomará su tiempo. La gran planicie de Kem Kem y sus dunas de formas suaves acogerán esta noche de campamento donde la temperatura se va templando y rara vez baja de los 10ºC en esta época.
ETAPA 4. PISTA DAKAR-TAGOUNITE-MHAMID-IRIKI
Una pista rápida que el Dakar africano usaba en las ediciones que surcaban el Reino Alauita será el primer escenario de esta jornada. Interminables kilómetros en un mismo rumbo nos llevarán a la montaña conocida como Volcano, desde cuya cima se aprecia una inmensa planicie rodeada de montañas abruptas.
Breve vuelta a la civilización para avituallarnos de combustible y víveres: aún queda lo más duro de la etapa: las pequeñas dunas de Mhamid y el río de arena del Erg Chegaga que nos llevará hasta el incomparable marco del lago Iriki, donde espera el campamento. Un manto de estrellas será nuestro techo.
ETAPA 5. RIO DRAA-MHAMID-ZAGORA
La prueba de orientación previa a la etapa con la ya tradicional salida en paralelo será el pistoletazo de salida de esta jornada. Más tarde los equipos se enfrentarán a una etapa en la que el papel de los navegantes será vital. Evitar los grandes mares de dunas y saber leer el terreno gracias a la experiencia adquirida los días previos será la clave del éxito.
A la llegada a Mhamid nos despedimos de las pistas (unos con tristeza y otros no tanto). El enlace por carretera nos conducirá al campamento junto al río Draa y su inmenso palmeral.
ETAPA 6: ZAGORA-OUARZAZATE-MARRAKECH
Una etapa de enlace por carretera hasta la ciudad roja en la que los equipos no podrán despistarse. Los interminables puertos de montaña harán que recorrer los poco más de 300 kilómetros ocupen más de 6 horas. El caótico tráfico de Marrakech tampoco lo podrá fácil y será el último escollo que afrontar.
La entrega de trofeos en las distintas categorías y la cena posterior pondrá fin a esta edición de #LaGranAventura.

A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE ITINERARY
Designing an itinerary for around fifty Santanas and Series to travel more than 1,500 km through Morocco has been a real challenge.
The purpose of creating a variety of stages and locating the camping spots in unique scenarios —but still accesible to the necessary infrastructure and service requirements that 150 people need— has resulted in the most balanced and varied itinerary of all editions of #LaGranAventura
STAGE 0: ALMERIA-NADOR Departure from Port of Almería (7:30 AM)
Boarding to NADOR (9:00 AM)
For the first time, Santana Trophy is emancipated from its traditional departure in Linares. Looking to begin the adventure as soon as possible, the departure spot has been moved to Almería, where the expedition will embark directly to Nador.
After the administrative and technical procedures in the Port of Almería, a 5 hour maritime journey will allow us to carry out the first customs procedures on board, and attend the first general briefing.
After disembarking there’s only 90 km left to the camping space what will accommodate the caravan during its first night on Moroccan soil. A zone of mild temperatures, typical of the Mediterranean but prone to rain, hosts the teams while they regain their strength before tomorrow’s challenge.
STAGE 1: NADOR-TAOURIRT-ANOUAL
A stage designed to get the teams used to their road-book and the daily rhythm, in which the consequences of the possible navigational errors don’t necessarily alter the classification.
After a long road link with some slow mountain passes, the first trails of Plateau d’Rekkam appear, and with them begins the challenge: the slow start to the trail, broken by water passes, may distract some of the teams. A great gravel trail will let them know they are on the right track after a few kilometres of uncertainty. This fast trail with easy navigation will help the participants gain some confidence in their skills.
The camping spot will be placed between the towns of Anoual and Talsint. At around 1.200 meters above sea level, expect a dry but cold night (around 2ºC), characteristic to this arid and semi-desert area.
STAGE 2: TALSINT-COL D’BELKASSEM-BOUBNIB-ERFOUD
A short road link to stock up on fuel and supplies will lead the teams to one of the stages with the most varied land. We will begin with a fast trail that will get worse and worse until it turns into a slow, rocky mountain pass. Participants will probably have to get off their vehicles to guide the pilots through this stony trail full of sharp turns and steep inclines. But this is merely the start of the day.
The constant route to the South will take the teams to the first sand rivers, which will alternate with straight trails of over 20 km. To end the day, a rocky area will put everyone’s patience to the test as they drive through the last 20 km at a slow pace. Not all the desert is sand, although in future stages it will sure look like it.
Tonight, the caravan will rest at Hotel BELERE in Erfoud, after three days of being exposed to the elements.
STAGE 3: ERG CHEBBI-LOST CITY-KEM KEM
The day begins with the sand challenge. Touring the sandy areas of Erg Chebbi is not a big challenge for the Land Rover Santana and Series. However, finding the markers that the organization places in strategic spots and which the teams must use to mark their route cards can be a big challenge that may end with some vehicles trapped in the sand.
The stage continues after a brief road link. Finding a lost city among a labyrinth of tracks will cause the first headaches to the participants. There’s no time to lose en route to the camping spot, as the sand and fes fes in Ouzina aren’t made for speed. The huge Kem Kem plain and its soft-shaped dunes will host this camp night, where temperatures are more tempered and rarely drop below 10ºC at this time of the year.
STAGE 4: DAKAR TRACK-TAGOUNITE-MHAMID-IRIKI
A fast trail that the African Dakar used during the editions that crossed the Alauite Kingdom will be the first stage of the day. Unending kilometers in the same direction will take us to the mountain known as Volcano, from whose summit you can see an immense plateau surrounded by abrupt mountains.
A brief return to civilization to stock up on fuel and supplies, with the hardest part of the stage before us: the small dunes of Mhamid and the sand river in Erg Chegaga will lead us to the incomparable landscape of Lake Iriki, where the camp awaits. A blanket of stars will be our ceiling tonight.
STAGE 5: DRAA RIVER-MHAMID-ZAGORA
The orientation challenge prior to the stage with the traditional parallel start will be the starting signal for this day. Later, the teams will have to face a stage in which navigation will really be the most important skill. Avoiding the sandy areas and being able to read the terrain using the experience gained in the past few days will be the key to success.
Once in Mhamid we say goodbye to the trails (some will be sadder than other about this). The road link will take us to the camp, next to the Draa River and its huge palm grove.
STAGE 6: ZAGORA-OUARZAZATE-MARRAKECH
A road-link stage to the Red City during which the teams can’t risk distractions. The unending mountain passes will turn the 300 km into a 6 hour drive. The chaotic traffic in Marrakesh won’t help either, but it will be the last challenge.
The presentation of the trophies to the winners in the different categories and the subsequent dinner mark the end of this edition of #LaGranAventura.
